In Conversation With...Answer Me This!

At first direct, we love people who live their lives in a less ordinary way and think about things that little bit differently. That's why we partnered with Helen Zaltzman and Olly Mann from the hilarious Answer Me This! podcast.

Chatting about money matters should be interesting and informative, not bore you to tears with dreary details. To prove that point, we sent a few questions over to Helen and Olly - two people who have an unexpected approach to pretty much any topic you can think of.

If you haven't heard Answer Me This! yet, every month the comic pair tackle a set of questions submitted by their audience. Over the 350+ episodes produced so far, they've tackled everything from medieval dragons to zombie cockroaches. We didn't ask them anything quite as weird as that, but we did get them to tackle a few commonly asked questions around money. We think their refreshing, no-nonsense approach to discussing money is much more healthy and we think you'll like it too.

Here's a little taster of what's in store when you have a listen...

Our first question for Helen and Olly was: 'How do I reach my financial goals without missing out?' Helen gave some tips on how to throw a great dinner party on a budget and Olly shared his advice on making some money by selling off an unwanted sofa on eBay.

Our question to the team in this episode was: 'With Christmas approaching, does giving actually make us feel better?' Helen revealed that she finds giving to charity a good way to relieve the pressures of life. Olly gave a detailed history of the charity single by Band Aid, which was quite a treat for pop trivia fans. For example, did you know that the biggest selling single of all time before 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' was Paul McCartney's 'Mull Of Kintyre'? Fascinating, and baffling.

We're all about trying new things here at first direct, and so for our final question we asked Helen and Olly 'why do we mostly give up stuff in January, instead of trying something new?' If you're up for some New Year inspiration, this one's definitely well worth a listen.
