Do I need to tell first direct I am travelling?
No, you can go on your travels safe in the knowledge that we will look out for any unusual spending on your accounts as we would do when you're here at home. As always, please make sure we have have your up to date telephone numbers (you can send us a message on Online Banking).
Can I use my first direct credit card to pay for goods and services abroad?
You can pay for your goods whilst abroad at over 35 million outlets worldwide. If you make a transaction in a non-Sterling currency (a foreign currency) we will charge a fee of 2.99% of the amount of the transaction.
Any non-Sterling transactions (including cash withdrawals) are converted to Sterling by using the relevant payment scheme exchange rate applying on the day the conversion is made.
We will deduct the payment and related transaction fees from your account once we receive details of the payment from the card scheme, at the latest the next working day.

Can I withdraw cash abroad using my first direct credit card?
Your first direct credit card allows you to withdraw up to £500 in local currency from over two million cash machines worldwide displaying the Visa logo. If you make a transaction in a non-Sterling currency (a foreign currency) we will charge a fee of 2.99%. This fee will be shown separately on your statement as a 'Non-Sterling Transaction Fee'.
For cash advances (other than for gambling transactions) we will also charge a cash fee of 2.99% of the amount advanced (minimum £3.00). Some ATM operators may also charge you for making withdrawals from their machines, and this will be advised on screen at the time of withdrawal.
Can I order travel money in advance using my first direct credit card?
Yes. Simply order online using your credit card.
