Our recruitment process

    Once you’re confident first direct is for you and are sure you will pass our pre-employment checks, then it’s time to apply. You can do this online here and select a convenient time for us to call you back. Alternatively you can call us on 0808 1000 127 - we’d love to hear from you. Not only can we answer all your questions, but wherever possible we will take you through an immediate telephone interview or book an appointment for a more convenient time; whatever suits you.

  • step 2

    Telephone interview

    Due to the nature of the role you’re applying for, it will come as no surprise that we need to have a chat with you to assess your verbal communication skills. We will also want to check your understanding of the Customer Representative role and will ask some competency based questions. This is where we ask you about situations you have been in and how you reacted. Think about the skills you already have and how they can be applied to the role you’re interested in. If you are successful you will be invited in for an on-site assessment.

    On-site assessment

    Now you’ve got to know us a little bit better, it’s time for you to come and meet us in person. We’ll give you a tour, presentation and you’ll also take part in a call simulation exercise. The session is designed to give you all the information you need about working at first direct as well as the chance for you to dazzle us with your skills. You will find out on the day if you have passed the call simulation and if you have, will be invited back on another day for a face to face interview.

    Face to face interview

    Keep going, you’re almost there now. The last stage of our recruitment process involves a face to face interview, lasting approximately an hour. We’ll ask you to talk us through the last five years of your employment or education history and will check your understanding of what’s expected of you in your chosen role. Finally, we will ask a series of competency questions to ensure you have all the skills required to thrive at first direct. This is your last chance to shine, so don’t be afraid to blow your own trumpet and impress us with your strongest examples. You will usually learn the result of your interview within three working days.
