Trusteer Rapport

Frequently asked questions

Who is Trusteer?

Trusteer is the world's leading provider of secure browsing services. That's why we've teamed up with Trusteer to bring you their Rapport security software which will help to secure the connection between your computer and first direct Internet Banking, as well as other first direct websites.

How does Trusteer Rapport help to secure my Internet Banking connection?

The Trusteer Rapport security software safeguards your Internet Banking log on details by securing the connection between your computer and first direct Internet Banking. It also checks that you've accessed a genuine first direct website. If you haven't accessed our website, it stops your data going to a fraudulent website.

Do I still need anti-virus software?

Yes. Anti-virus software is a vital part of your computer's defences, and you need to make sure it's up-to-date. Trusteer Rapport is designed to work alongside your anti-virus software and firewall - it's not designed to replace them as they work most effectively when used together.

  • Anti-virus - helps to stop threats, by scanning your PC and looking for suspicious files
  • Firewall - hides your computer from attackers, and helps stop criminals getting data in and out of your PC
  • Trusteer Rapport - secures the connection between your computer and first direct Internet Banking. It checks you've accessed the genuine first direct website. If you haven't accessed our website, it stops your data going to a fraudulent website.

Which websites are protected?

When you download the software, it's already set up to help protect you when you use first direct's Internet Banking, Internet Banking Plus and Sharedealing.

You can also use Trusteer Rapport to help protect you on all websites where you login or send sensitive information. To activate Trusteer Rapport protection on other sites, simply browse to the website, click the grey Rapport icon, and then select 'protect this website'.

Will Trusteer Rapport slow my computer down?

Any performance or browser issues experienced immediately following installation of Trusteer Rapport is most likely a result of software incompatibility or a clash with a computer virus already on your computer.

While Trusteer test Rapport extensively against hundreds of software solutions and do everything they can to prevent, identify and fix such issues, inevitably a few software combinations remain untested.

Trusteer will work with you to resolve any issue you're experiencing. Visit trusteer.com/support and select 'Live Support Online' from the left hand side of the page to start an online chat with a Trusteer support representative.

Can I use Trusteer Rapport with screen reading software?

At the moment Trusteer Rapport isn't compatible with screen readers. Although you can install it, the protection won't work properly, as you'd have to turn off some of the key features.

I think I've been a victim of online fraud. What do I do?

If you think that any of your accounts with us have been accessed online by someone other than yourself - please call us anytime on 08 456 100 100.

What do I do if I already have Trusteer Rapport?

If you have already downloaded Truster Rapport from another source, you will not need to to do anything. The same version of Trusteer Rapport is used by a number of banks in the UK and all are fully functioning with each other.
