Text Message Banking


Clear and simple

Text Message Banking is a simple way to keep an eye on your finances - without even having to think about it. You can receive text alerts when your salary's in or when your balance reaches a specific level - so you're always in control.

Just tell us what information you'd like us to send and how often you'd like us to contact you. It's simple to set up, and we won't charge you any extra for the service.

Text Message Banking at a glance

 What you need before you start  

  • a 1st Account and a mobile phone capable of receiving text messages
  • you can nominate one mobile phone and choose to be sent any combination of up to eight events and/or mini-statement text messages at any time
  • you can choose up to three accounts from any of your 1st Account, e-Savings Account, Bonus Savings Account, Everyday Savings Account, Everyday e-Saver Account, Savings Account, Regular Saver Account, credit cards, Flexiloan and Offset Mortgage as your nominated account (s)
  • once your registration for Text Message Banking has been processed, we will let you know by sending a message to your nominated mobile phone.
 How it works  

  • each message will contain a maximum of 160 characters. If more than 160 characters would be needed to display all transactions processed since your previous text message, we're afraid details of the earliest transactions cannot be sent.
  • mini-statements contain details of your balance and five transactions that have been processed by the date and time stated in the text message. It's a bit like reading the mini-statement you receive on a high street cash machine.
  • if you request a 'credit or debit above' event message, we will send you details of any credit or debit transactions above the amount specified followed by your account balance at the date and time stated in the text message
  • if you request a 'balance below or above' event message, we'll send you your balance followed by up to five transactions. You'll receive a message every day there is activity on your account and your balance is above/below the amount you have specified.
  • if two or more events occur on the same day, we'll send you a mini-statement message with the message header 'multi-event'. If this isn't practical, we'll send you separate messages.
 Making changes  

You can change any events or accounts selected electronically by using Internet Banking. Alternatively you can call 03 456 100 123. Please do this before 10pm if you want us to make any changes from the next day onwards.

 Travelling abroad  

Although you can still receive your Text Message Service when you are abroad, we recommend that you suspend Text Message Banking if you are taking your mobile phone outside the United Kingdom. This is because the security of any foreign telephone network through which text messages might be transmitted to your mobile phone cannot be guaranteed.


Please tell us as soon as possible on 03 456 100 123 if any banking text message appears to be irregular, and we'll get to the bottom of it.





How to register for Mobile Banking

Already a customer?

You can apply online through your Internet Banking. As you're currently logged in, just select Apply online from the left hand menu within Internet Banking

Text Message Banking

Log on to apply

Once you've logged on to Internet Banking, just select 'Apply', and choose 'Text Message Banking' from the left hand menu.

If you haven't yet registered for Internet Banking, simply click on the link below and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note: You will need to have registered for telephone banking before you can access Internet Banking. You can do this by calling us on 03 456 100 100.

Register for Internet Banking

Mobile Money

To register for Mobile Money via your mobile phone, simply text 'fd', or 'BB' if you're using a BlackBerry, to 82428. Within 60 seconds you'll receive a text message, then simply follow the on screen instructions.

If you use this service abroad, standard roaming data charges will apply depending on your network.
