Mobile Money at a glance


Mobile Money works on most popular mobile phones - if your mobile phone has a camera or games installed it should support Mobile Money. Unfortunately, our mobile banking service isn't compatible with the iPhone™ - but the good news is you can use our iPhone app instead.

  • register for Mobile Money via your mobile phone by texting 'fd' to 82428. Within 60 seconds you'll receive a text message, then simply follow the on screen instructions
  • we'll send your mobile phone a piece of software - it just takes a minute to download and install
  • you can then view a mini-statement, your balance or top up your mobile in an instant.

Once you've registered and downloaded the software onto your phone, you'll be able to request the following mobile banking services at no additional charge, as often as you like, until 31 December 2014:

  • real time balances
  • real time mini-statements
  • real time top ups to a prepay mobile phone (mobile phone top ups are debited directly from your first direct 1st Account and there is no charge for this service).
Costs from 1 January 2015 are 25p for a mini-statement, and just 20p for balance enquiries. No additional fees will apply to mobile phone top ups.

* Free means free of charges from first direct. O2, T-Mobile and Tesco Mobile customers can download and use the service completely free. Orange, Vodafone and Virgin mobile customers may incur a small data charge. If you use this service abroad, standard roaming data charges will apply depending on your network.


Our mobile banking transactions are just as secure as using Internet Banking. Your Mobile Money service can only be accessed from your mobile phone using your passcode, and we regularly test, update and validate our security model to ensure we maintain a banking grade level of security. We also use recognised and independent security experts to validate the security of Mobile Money.

How to register for Mobile Banking

Already a customer?

You can apply online through your Internet Banking. As you're currently logged in, just select Apply online from the left hand menu within Internet Banking

Text Message Banking

Log on to apply

Once you've logged on to Internet Banking, just select 'Apply', and choose 'Text Message Banking' from the left hand menu.

If you haven't yet registered for Internet Banking, simply click on the link below and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note: You will need to have registered for telephone banking before you can access Internet Banking. You can do this by calling us on 08 456 100 100.

Mobile Money

To register for Mobile Money via your mobile phone, simply text 'fd', or 'BB' if you're using a BlackBerry, to 82428. Within 60 seconds you'll receive a text message, then simply follow the on screen instructions.

If you use this service abroad, standard roaming data charges will apply depending on your network.
